Linked, Plaxo, Google Sites

http://sites.google.com/site/maischw/

this is my google sites, site. I had some trouble trying to edit it and what not. Once I thought I finally got it, it wouldn't let me save it...I'm not sure if it was my computer, internet connection, or something else. SOO it's not as great as I'd hoped it would be. I'll try fixing it again later. I think it's a neat way to get everything in one spot!

I think that there are definite benefits to all three of the projects for this week. I think that the google sites website it a really good way to compile all the things you may want to get to people whether it be professionally or personally. It's a good way to organize and get your points across while showing some of your personality.
The problem that I see all of these sites having is that they are not very popular. I guess I don't know what's popular and what's not when it comes to the professional world, but not a lot of people I know have accounts or use any of the resources we are discovering. It may become more popular in the future, but for right now, I feel as though it's not and so it's going to be harder to connect with people than e-mail or just handing out hard copies of your stuff.

LIBRARY THING! It's a good way to keep track of books lists, now if only I could accomplish the whole reading part of them.

I thought this activity was fun! I likes working with letterjames.com the best because I felt like it was the least confusing and it had fun things to do with pictures.

Best Invention ever funny

Delicious, Technorati, You Tube

Delicious- I think that the Delicious site could be very useful for people to use in association with anything whether it be work or school or teaching. I will probably not use it if I am teaching just because I don't really want to. I am not big into computers and technology and all that so I stay away from it as much as I can, even if it's meant to make my life simpler.
Technorati- This site is neat because you really can scan the giant world of blogging simply. I typed in Kinesiology into the search and nothing came up because it was searching for posts and not blogs. Once I swithced it over to blogs, there were a lot more. Then I typed in athletic training and a lot popped up. It was neat.

RSS-Web 2.0-Google Doc.

I didn't really know that anything like the RSS thing existed. I guess in a small way I had experienced something like that anyways when facebook sends e-mails to me whenever anyone does anything to my profile. I think that it's a good way to stay updated on a large number of things.
Google documents in a great way of doing things! I think it makes life a whole lot simpler. You can save things just as easily and this way they're anywhere you are and you dn't have to save and e-mail them to yourself. Great invention google, good job!
Web 2.0 is a newer way to work with the internet. It takes what people want and makes it easier and better for them.

I think Flickr could be fun...but probably won't keep up with it enough to actually find out...WE'LL SEE!
I read the articles: emerging technologies changing libraries; this article brought up things that I've never really thought about. I realize that technology is being integrated into libraries. A friend and I just had a talk about the dewey decimal system and how no one really gets taught it anymore. You go to the library and look up a title online instead of in a card catalog. The article talked about using blogs and what not for things like book reviews as well. That's an idea but I don't know if I see that being integrated into public libraries just yet. Isn't that what book clubs and all that is for?
Examining social software in education: I enjoyed reading this article. When sites like facebook first came out, they were great ways to keep connected and share your thoughts with the world. Now, they've become slightly differend. They are still a great way to stay connected, but businesses and schools are using them more and more to see what's going on with employees and students. I have torn feelings about using facebook in school. It's a good way to get students to keep up to date with class because they're probably on facebook all the time, BUT, the beginning of the article when the author talked about using internet to keep up with students and those that were being adviced king of bothered me. Personally, I like the one on one contact with my advisor and knowing they care enough to set time aside to see how I'm doing.
Web and Library 2.0: This article was very interesting to me because I had no clue what Library 2.0 was or even Web 2.0. It changes thinking from libraries being old, boring, dusty places to new and more exciting!

Technology.

I'm glad the professor said to say whatever you wanted because seriously, what the heck?:)I have come to the conclusion that I was born in the wrong era. Me and technology do not mix well. I have done a relatively good job of staying away from all the newest crazes that have to do with the web, such as twitter, and have been proud of that fact. I do have facebook, but am not a very good facebook holder. I go on to read what someone wrote and then BAM, i'm off again. Now this twitter assignment along with blogging, and and and...it makes me nervous. I really don't know what I'm doing. I suppose this is all good for me but, I feel lost..and not all that excited. I'll do my best however!

Finally Home!

These past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind and I am happy to announce that I am home! I left California on the 13th of May and had a rough day. I missed my first flight and after that I was antzy and ready to be out of the airports! I finally landed in MN at 10pm and got home at like 1am. The next morning I got right up, packed a bag and was off to southern Iowa for a wedding. It was a beautiful wedding and I loved seeing everyone. It was so good to be back with everyone but it all ended too soon. Sunday afternoon I left southern Iowa, met up with my cousin and her two kids(3 and 9 months) and headed to Arkansas to visit my other cousin who was having her birthday. It was a drive full of fun (kids!), tornado warnings, and miles and miles of rainy roads. We made it late that night and had a good week in Arkansas. Now I have been home in Iowa for two whole days and am behind on everything! Come to find out that when I went to do my homework, the website is down all weekend. GREAT!!!! I AM IN TROUBLE but will get it done. I just need to let myself slow down and take a breather!

My First Blog

HELLO! I am from Iowa and am currently exploring all the things that world wide web has to offer after trying my hardest to stay away from it all!! So within this exploration came this blog. I moved to California in August of last year and have been adjusting to life outside the midwest. There have been many blessings along the way and God is showing his grace and love to me each day I am out there. I am currently back for the summer and LOVING it already. I love my family, friends, and most of all my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What do I enjoy to do? Spend time with people, good converstations, the outdoors, being creative, adventures, fellowship, or anything random and spontaneous. I will try my hardest to be a good blogger but we'll see what happens!

My first blog!
